From TierraViva Foundation, and together with other youth organizations, was begun today in the city of Capilla del Monte, Cordoba The Youth Congress “Road to Rio +20” in order to influence the results of Sustainable Development Conference to be held in Rio de Janeiro in 2012. The main goal is to ensure a strong and articulate youth participation both in the prior process and at the meeting.

In that sense, “Road to Rio +20” seeks to inspire and mobilize young people to work towards sustainable development, linking, amplifying and giving visibility to the initiatives that various organizations, youth groups and communities are pursuing in this issue. The conference is attended by more than 40 youth organizations from Latin America and the Caribbean, representing 10 countries of the region, who will meet until next October 2 to explore and discuss the issues and challenges of sustainable development in Latin America, agree on a common agenda of priority issues for the Rio +20 Conference and develop a regional plan, including mobilization campaigns, projects and advocacy action.

Throughout the first day of the conference, Veronica Cipolatti, from CEDHA Foundation and Coordinator of the Access Initiative in Argentina (TAI), made a statement to update on the agendas discussed at the Preparatory Meeting for Latin America, held in Chile last month, and contribute to the discussion points.

The meeting will end on October 2, with a regional strategy for the Core Group of Youth in the Region, which hopes to provide and coordinate with the international movement, making substantive inputs to international sustainable development agenda.
