The Center for Human Rights and Environment (CHRE), based in South Florida, expresses its concern over the predicament of Florida’s native panther population. We encourage public agencies, including the US Fish and Wildlife Services to keep the Florida Panther with the highest possible protected species status, and to increment efforts to protect the Florida Panther from anthropogenic risks and impacts, including the negative impacts of urban sprawl, the introduction of new development project in panther territory as well as the growing impacts of climate change trends, all of which make the survival of Florida’s panther population more difficult.

We need a healthier and more vibrant panther population in order for the species to thrive in our territory, and yet we are threatening their survival by not taking enough measures and not passing the needed public policy and protection strategies necessary for their revival.

If you’d like to send your concerns regarding the Florida Panther to the US Fish and Wildlife Service. The USFWS will be reviewing panther protection status through August of 2017.
