Spanish Telecommunications Giant, Telefónica Recruits CHRE Director to Independent Sustainability Advisory Board

Center for Human Rights and Environment (CHRE) Director, Jorge Daniel Taillant joined Spanish Telefónica’s Stakeholder Panel on Responsible Business, bringing to the independent advisory panel a lengthy trajectory in human rights and business know-how.

Created in 2015 and put into motion this year, Telefónica’s independent advisory panel assists the company to better understand and respond to stakeholder concerns, and to be better prepared for the sustainability-related challenges that it faces in day to day operations. Telefónica is presently identifying the intial15-20 panel advisors from its’ key stakeholder base to help guide the company’s Sustainability Plan. Some of the priority markets for the panel’s focus work are: Spain, Brazil, Mexico, Germany and Chile. Telefónica will also launch a broader stakeholder advisory group consisting of up to 100 additional stakeholder specialists.

CHRE’s Director, J. Daniel Taillant has a long contributed to the evolution of corporate accountability and sustainability doctrine worldwide, engaging decisively in the development of the UN’s framework on Business and Human Rights. He has helped guide international advocacy on corporate accountability, and currently serves on the Global Reporting Initiative’s Global Sustainability Standards Board, assisting the world’s sustainability reporting framework at GRI to move into a publicly accountable independent standard.
